News from our members in India

The Rural Development and Youth Training Institute joined AIEJI earlier this year and is based in Kota, Rajasthan, India. The institute is involved in eradicating extreme poverty, promoting primary education for children, working with gender issues, preventing child mortality, improving maternal health, combating HIV/Aids and ensuring environmental sustainability.

They have sent me a short update of their recent activities.

In the first week of October, to celebrate the International Day of Social Educators, they held two workshops and a seminar on the UN Convention on children’s rights. They are also working on participating at the coming world congress in 2013 with 3-4 people where they will present their work.

Good luck to our colleagues in India!

  • Hello RDYIT
Congratulations with your work. If you work with orphan children, here is a free for use resource for you. It’s a research based education program for orphanage staffs and foster families in quality care improvement education and organizational development. It’s already standard education in the 8000 Indonesia orphanages, and at present it is being translated into Hindi and Urdu by volunteers. It improves professional caregiver skills and child development without inxreasing expenses.
You use it by opening the site and click the Handbook for instructions. Then you click “Sessions” in the menu line and take staff groups through the 15 education and dialogue sessions. This is done at prolonged staff meetings once a month. The whole education takes about a year to complete, and its very efficient in creating quality care research based practices to orphan care.
